Where a rogue grabs what's valuable and moves on, the archaeologist documents the position of every shard before touching it, photographs the surrounding soil, cross-references the ceramic style against known typologies, and writes it all up in a site report that a handful of people will read and one person will eventually cite in a paper about Bronze Age pottery. The loot ends up the same. The process just takes a lot longer and comes with a lot more paperwork.
