We Had One Job.

The Library of Alexandria housed an estimated 400,000 to 700,000 scrolls at its peak. Works by Aristotle, Euclid, Archimedes, Eratosthenes who calculated the circumference of the earth with a stick and some shadows to a remarkable degree of accuracy. An unknowable quantity of texts that nobody alive today has ever read or will ever read because the Backup Department had one job. The filing cabinets are a nice touch because they suggest someone understood the assignment conceptually but perhaps not urgently enough.

For the historians, the librarians, the archivists, the IT professionals who have ever sent a reminder about backup protocols to people who did not act on it in time, and anyone who has ever lost a document they didn't save and understood, in that moment, exactly how this felt at a much larger scale.

The scroll survived. We're doing our best with it.
